When a break is what you need, do you take it? Or do you struggle to let go? I will be the first to admit resting my mind and body does not come easy to me. Now I know it is good for the soul – however, the struggle is real.
Here are a few ideas that help me:
-
- putting away my electronics
- remembering how rest makes me feel
- scheduling the break right into my calendar
- reminding myself that God rested too
- using small bits of time for a break

This spoke to me today Maree, I need to take a break too…
Bless you,
Jennifer
I must confess. My break was more to concentrate on some projects. However, this week I am taking some time off and enjoying my family. Maree
I hope you enjoy some extra downtime while you slow down a bit from blogging. Thanks for hosting!
Donna,
Thank you! I have slowed down this week to enjoy some family time. It has been great. I hope you are having a good summer. Maree
Take a break? My life is one big break. I desire to do God’s work, helping the poor, but God hasn’t made it possible. The Bible says that God has a purpose for everyone. The problem is that God hasn’t given me a purpose. I don’t know what God wants me to do. I am extremely discouraged by this, and God isn’t helping me in any way that I can see/understand. I feel completely overwhelmed by God’s lack of communication on anything.
I want to understand what God wants, but God remains distant, silent. A purpose would bring meaning, hope, a reason to want to live. So you see that it’s not a break that is needed, but something to do, a purpose. Thanks for the chance to say my piece. May God Bless You, in Jesus name, Amen
Kenneth,
I have not lost hope that you will find your purpose, and I can’t wait to find out what it is. There have been times in my life when I struggled to be able to see my purposes. What I did felt mundane and useless. (Sweeping a floor over and over when you know it will get dirty again didn’t seem like God’s work)
However, I changed my thinking, and it made all the difference in the world. Maybe it will work for you too. I let go of the idea of a BIG purpose or reaching many, and started focusing on God’s will for the moment or day. I believe we have many untapped purposes in our every day. A short break, like a walk with God, helps me see those.
Sometimes it is reaching out to someone in need with a smile or opening a door. Calling someone, I think, could use a little encouragement. I understand wanting to make a difference for God in a mighty way or a specific way. I admire your desire,
However, I have found when I get too stuck in a specific way; I miss what He truly wants. I wanted to mission work. I thought that was where He called me when I took a few short term trips. I wanted this to be my calling. But then circumstances changes, and it prevented me from being able to travel. I was discouraged until I started trying to find His purpose, not my purpose in my everyday.
I am praying for you!
Maree
Due to some physical issues, my body makes me take breaks whether I want to or not. I usually do want to. 🙂 I’ve learned through this the value and necessity of rest. Our work later is better when we’ve had the rest we need.
Barbara, You are so right, our work does turn out better. I am so sorry you are forced to take breaks but glad they are good for you. Maree
