What is your greatest fear right now? Can you put words to it? When we fail to speak our concerns or try to ignore what we are afraid of, we end up giving tremendous power to it.
Have you ever experienced this?
Unnamed fear tends to grow bigger and bigger underneath the surface. It causes us many times to lose our perspective and takes us on a path filled with untruths, even in simple matters. #fear Share on X
A few nights ago, when I went to bed, I fell quickly asleep only to be awakened to a knocking sound. As I lay there listening, I heard footsteps approaching, and the doorknob began rattling. I pulled the covers up over my head as if that would do something.
Instead of facing my fear and checking it out, I chose to pretend everything was okay. I tossed and turned all night long, getting little to no sleep. As the sun began to rise, I peeked out from under the covers and quickly darted my eyes towards the sounds. In a bit of disbelief, I discovered the monster, the bad guy, the thing that interrupted my sleep. It was the silly humidifier I had turned on to help with the dry air. If only I had been brave enough to name my fear, turn the light on and gain a little perspective.

Timely topic. I believe God allows those negative emotions so we can learn more about ourselves and so He can show Himself strong. Win … win!
Donna,
I couldn’t agree with you more. It is in those times my faith grows. Maree
I’m dealing with a teen with a lot of fears right now. Thanks for addressing it. And sharing Jennifer’s post.
Lauren,
It is so hard to find the words to comfort those who are afraid. Praying you hear God’s words loud and clear and your teen let’s go of some of the fear.
Such a good question for now as we all face the monster under the bed. Depending on the day, my biggest fear is either contracting the virus or not being able to see my kids/grandson. Thank you for providing a space to go deeper.
Mary,
Are you able to see your kids and grandson now? If not, I bet that is so hard. I haven’t seen my husband or my two of my three adult children in over a month. I miss them. Hopefully, this Thursday, I can see my husband. Yes, these can be times of fear consuming us if we are not careful and give it all to God. He’s got us.
I had to laugh at your humidifier story. I can’t tell you how many times I have dispatched my husband to check out a bump in the night only to find out it was nothing!
Yes, if my husband had been here, I would have begged him to go. I am glad to know I am not alone.
What a great topic for this unsettled time. I think we are all fighting anxiety on some level, and I’m trusting that we will come out stronger on the other side.
I absolutely agree we are all fighting some sort of anxiety and stress. I hope you and your family are doing well.
Thank you Maree for featuring my story, I pray it encourages others in this pandemic 😀
Bless you,
Jennifer
