Do you struggle with deviating from your well laid out plan? You know when those pesky interruptions show up right smack dab in the middle of a brilliant endeavor. But what if the disruption or the person should take priority? How do you know what is most important?

Planning is my specialty, and truthfully, I tend to get a bit frustrated with interruptions. How about you? But what if those disruptions are God-ordained? #interruptions #mostimportant Share on X

How to Know What is Most Important

At times like this, I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit, who can guide me into what is most important.  However, many times I fail to stop and seek Him. It seems when we don’t turn to God, not only do we end up frustrated, but the disruption tends to last even longer.  Have you ever noticed this?

  2. I need to listen to the Holy Spirit when I am trying to make a decision about what is most important. What is puzzling to me is clear to God. Thank you for the good reminder!

    1. Yes, God has such clarity if we will only stop and listen. I hope you are having a good week. Maree

    1. Amy – Thank you for your beautiful post. I am asking the questions right now. Maree

    1. Bev,

  3. Hi Maree Dee,
Two good questions from Amy, make you think. I can ask all the questions in the world, but they don’t matter when God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit remain silent and don’t help you ever. Never hear God or Jesus, just silence. The Holy Spirit that is to direct us, seems to have gotten lost. I don’t sense anything from that front. What I am saying is that you can try all you want, but if God/Jesus/Holy Spirit does nothing, you will end up like me, a total spiritual disaster, lost without hope, depressed, miserable. My problem is with two things, God’s (Jesus/Holy Spirit included) silence, and God’s lack of action (timing). Here is an example of what I mean by that last part. Jim prayes for financial help so he won’t lose his house. Jim is 75 years old. Now God waits until Jim is 90, in hospital
and dieing of old age. Now God decides to answer Jim’s prayer that he prayed when he was 75. What good is that kind of timing. Sometimes I feel that God is taking far too long, and is far too silent, for my good. Thanks Maree and God bless you, in Jesus holy name, Amen

    1. Kenneth,

I know it can be so frustrating with understanding God’s timing. His perspective is so different than ours, but I do believe He has our best interest in mind, and that is plan is always good. Of course, that doesn’t mean it isn’t painful or hard.

I read a book that was helpful to me in hearing God’s voice. “Becoming a Woman Who Listens to God” by Sharon Jaynes.” However, it was written for women. So it is probably strange I am mentioning it.

Do you have a church family? If so, maybe the care pastor could be helpful in pointing you in a direction to helping you in hearing God. I am praying you will hear God’s voice.

    1. Tiffany,
Those are good questions. I tend to ask them for the BIG things but want to make sure I am doing the same for the little things. I hope you enjoyed reading our featured post. Maree

  4. Hey Maree, I definitely struggle with deviating from my plans. I am such a planner at heart! Thank you for sharing Amy’s post to help put perspective on what’s most important.

    1. Tiffiney,

I am glad to know I am not alone. I went through a period of time when life was utterly unpredictable. It was so hard. However, I learned how to hold my plans loosely. I still plan it all out, but I am a little better at giving it up.

  5. This is something I struggle with, especially now with everyone home. My desk is right off the path to the kitchen, so when everyone stops for a break, they come over and speak to me. But sometimes I’m right in the middle of something important and resent the interruption. I have to remind myself that people are more important than tasks and these people in my home are my first ministry to Him.

    1. Barbara,

I struggle too with interruptions, especially if I am writing. That would be hard with your desk where it is. I, too, need to remember people are my first ministry.

However, I do schedule uninterrupted time to work with breaks in-between. Of course, if it is something important they can come in.

      Maree
