Yesterday, I made a sincere attempt to start a new love habit with my husband. We both tend to put our heads down and work hard all day with little interaction. So I decided to change things up.
Quietly, I tiptoed into the room where he was hard at work. Reaching out with one finger, I softly tapped his shoulder. To my surprise, he jumped up with a startled look and shouted – “What do you need?” It was not quite the expected reaction I was anticipating. My reply, “I’m here to give you a hug,” seemed to smooth things over. Perhaps, today it will go over a little better.
Remember, we can start love habits with anyone. It doesn’t have to be a spouse. It can be a family member, a friend, a child, or maybe someone who doesn’t receive a ton of love from others.

I had to smile when I read your hubby’s reaction to you initiating a new love habit. I’m sure my hubby’s reaction would be similar. Keep trying! I’m sure he will appreciate it.
Thank you for the encouragement. I won’t give up. Maree
We’ve been married 36 years – you are so right – it’s important to get out of ruts, to reassert those connections my jumbling up the schedules! I love your story! My husband responds the same way – I need to work on refreshing those communication expectations!
Maryleigh, Congratulations on 36 years. Let me know how it works on refreshing those communication expectations. It is hard to change things up. I hope you have a great day! Maree
I love this Maree! I’ll head over & read Jed’s post.

Awww, Mariee, thank you for the amazing feature. And for sharing your love habits story. The story made me smile and the feature totally made my day.
Wishing you and your family a happy Friday and an incredible weekend!
Jed,
It was an honor to feature your post last week. You had some great thoughts to enhance our relationships. Thank you also for your well wishes. I had a great weekend, and I hope you did too. Maree
Thanks for this, Maree! It’s easy to fall into routines and forget to actually connect. And, as your example indicated, we may need to try different things and/or times to see what works best, but it’s worth the effort.
Yes, it is worth the effort. I plan to try again today. The problem is my husband wears noise-canceling headphones and has his back to the door. Maybe I better try something else. I hope you have a fabulous day. Maree
