Are you intentional about self-care? How about during the holidays? If you are like most of us, our self-care takes a significant dive this time of year, and the stress begins to build. But what if we could gather our ideas and commit to a few non-negotiable things to love ourselves well not only in this busy season but any time of year.
Deborah Haddix says it well, “We enter the season with grand hopes of treasuring the season and enjoying the festivity. Then, BAMM!”
Why Be Intentional About Self-Care?
It will help us to experience all of God’s joy for us during this season. Plus, we will then be able to love others in the way God would desire. Not to mention, we will make better decisions during the holidays.
Of course, the best reason to be intentional about our self-care and lower our stress will be so we can focus on the most beautiful gift - JESUS. #selfcare #IntentionalChristmasLove Share on X“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift. ” 2 Corinthians 9:15 NIV

We want to hear from you.
After reading Deborah’s post, we would love to hear which of the six you struggle with and which you have conquered. The one I struggle with the most is #2 – Relax. However, Deborah points out this doesn’t have to be time-consuming; even 15 minutes will work.

Intentional Christmas Love
This December, let’s focus on what matters most: love. Join us each week for a new challenge as we turn our hearts toward God, ourselves, and others. Together, we can celebrate the true meaning of the season.
Of course, my comment went into cyberspace. Loved this post. It is just what I need for the season. I am about to block my time now and not spend it “catching up” on blogging and social media so I can enjoy what’s most important this holiday season.
Brittany, oh boy, your comment hit me hard. I am going to attempt to do the same. Thank you, Maree
Deb’s “Enough Sleep suggestion” is my biggest battle…With chronic pain it’s always a challenge…
Bless you Maree,
Jennifer
Deborah is one of my go-to girls for wisdom! Especially when she’s talking about grandmothering!
Michele, Thank you for sharing that tidbit of information. Maree
Thanks for linking to Deborah’s post! I’m pretty committed to regular time in God’s Word and exercise, and I’ve found it necessary to carve out pockets of relaxation. I need to be better about sugar consumption. We do interact socially, but my biggest problem with that is in my own home. When I’m in the midst of “getting things done,” I tend to want to be left alone. I need to remember that showing love is more about being present with and attentive to them rather than doing things for them.
Barbara, Thank you for the great reminder about getting things done vs. being present. It is something I will be pondering. Thank you! Maree
Maree,
Thanks for sharing Deborah’s post. I’m with you, relaxing is HARD to do during the holiday season. I find if I can even carve out those 15 minutes to take a relaxing mental vacation, it helps. I also struggle, ironically, with finding time to meditate on scripture. Seems counter intuitive at a time of year when we are supposed to be more focused on Jesus. Thanks for the healthy, helpful encouragement.
Blessings,
Bev xx
Bev, I am glad to know I am not alone. Praying you keep getting those 15 minutes in. Maree
