Are you holding on tightly to an injustice done against you? Does the unfairness of it all blind you from seeing the need to forgive? Maybe it is consuming more of your thoughts than you care to admit. Perhaps it is time to consider not only letting go of the wrong but also forgiving the person at fault.
Need to Forgive
Maybe you scoff at my boldness to even suggest such an act. Your heart cries out, “Maree – you have no idea of the wrongs done to me.” “Why do we need to forgive when we are the innocent ones?”
No, I don’t know your story. However, I know what it feels like to harbor unforgiveness in my heart. It can keep us stuck in a place of fear, isolation, and loneliness. Plus, bitterness begins to rise to the surface and take hold of our soul.
God wants us to let go of our unforgiveness to heal and live the life He has planned for us. He has so much more joy in store for us than we could ever imagine. #forgive #unforgiveness Share on XForgiveness is a strange process that holds a bit of mystery. We think we are letting the other one off the hook, but in reality, we are the ones who receive the freedom. We no longer are tethered to the wrong.

I loved this post, Maree. It reminded me of the quote that goes something like this: “Holding on to anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to get sick.”
I love that quote. It is so true.
Forgiveness can be such a tricky thing. There have been times I thought I had fully forgiven someone, but then unforgiveness reared its ugly up again when something else happened. Forgiveness isn’t always one and done. Thanks for sharing on this topic, Marie! We all need encouragement to stick with our efforts to forgive.
Yes, yes, yes. I believe forgiveness is a process. However, we first have to decide to walk in that direction.
Thank you Maree for featuring my post here. Such an honor!
Bless you,
Jennifer
It is always such an honor to feature your writing. You have a way of inspiring others to grow.
It does, indeed, take a work of God to forgive in lots of situations. Great and loving post.
Oh, yes, we need God to forgive.
Thanks for sharing this, Maree. The unfairness is often the sticking point. But remembering that Jesus forgave us when we didn’t “deserve” it helps me to forgive others.
Barbara, Yes, I agree. Jesus gave us so much, and we are so undeserving. I am so glad you mentioned that in the comments. It helps me too. Maree
