Are you a risk-taker? Many of us will take more chances when we have a safety net. However, what about when it comes to love? Would you be willing to take the risk and love more if you knew someone would catch you?
Today in our featured post, Lisa Burgess tells an intriguing story about an adventure where she weighs the risk and chooses it isn’t worth it to keep going. She then draws you in to begin looking at other aspects of risk-taking like love. She eloquently points out Jesus is our safety net when it comes to love. However, many of us tend to ignore the refuge we have in Him, and we fail to love when it is possible.
I tend to think of myself as a bit of an adventurous person, especially if I have a safety net to catch me, and if the adventure falls within the rules. However, as I read Lisa’s post and surveyed my week, I realized it is complicated when it comes to love. I failed this week at taking a risk.
Will You Take the Risk and Love More?
On Sunday, I felt prompted to hug a person at church whom I hardly know, but we share a devastating loss in common. It felt risky, uncomfortable, and maybe even a little weird to engage. So I chose to ignore God’s prompting and sent over a wimpy wave from afar. I did NOT take the risk and love with a hug. Yikes!
Have you ever done this?
And then I read Lisa’s words –
“When I’m tempted to back out of an encounter from fear of rejection, I can remember my safety net that Christ won’t abandon me.” – Lisa Burgess

Oh, ugh.
I’m very risk aversive in relationships,so thank you for highlighting Lisa’a good thoughts. I always glean good things when I read her words.
Michele – Me too, Lisa always has great wisdom and leave me pondering. Maree
Thank you for highlighting the post on risk, Maree. It’s something I continue to struggle with, so I have to remind myself often that Christ is always underneath me, beside me, and in me! Blessings to you for hosting us so faithfully in this space to help us grow our faith together.
Lisa, It was my honor to highlight your post. I am still pondering it. Yes, I agree we need to remind ourselves that Christ is always underneath us. Thank you for your kind words. I too love this space where together we grow our faith. Blessings, Maree
I loved that post of Lisa’s. I could identify both with stopping the climb and too often failing to take the risk to show love. But Jesus is always our safety net, help, and example–I need to look to Him and not myself.
Hi Barbara – I agree we always need to look to Him. My experience was different in reading Lisa’s post. I am pretty sure I would not have quit. I love a good challenge. However, when it comes to being rejected, I am not such a risk-taker. There were many lessons in her post for me to ponder. I am so glad we both loved it. Maree
